Rehoming Your Cat or Dog
Thank you for looking to the Humane Society of the Ochocos (HSO) to help with rehoming your family pet. To better understand our capacity to care for the community’s animals, it is important to know that our first intake priority is stray animals. HSO is contractually required with the City of Prineville, as well as with Crook County, to keep stray animals off the streets for public safety and for their own safety and to seek to reunite them with their pet parents.
As of 2024 ** For quite some time, HSO has been at capacity and has a weeks-to-months long waiting list of community members looking to rehome their animals. We encourage you to seek alternative solutions, when possible, to keep your furry friend at home, or to safely rehome yourself, and have provided some tips below.
If and when we have capacity, we first require an in-person animal assessment to ensure we can safely place your pet in a new home.
Making the decision to re-home a family pet is a difficult one and we want to help in every way we can.
Please read through the following information for resources that may help you find a solution.

If you are a Crook County resident, either scan the QR code below, or text WOOF or MEOW to 458-218-8610 and they will start working with you right away.
